What a nice surprise (Marago Bistro)

Great place for every occasion for evety fellowship.

Everyone surely knows what is a bistro, but can you define it? Maybe it is like a pear (according to one of the modern writers)...

"Pear is sweet and it has shape.
Try to define the shape of a pear."

It is similar with bistro. Till not a long time ago, I associated it with a cheap, self-service restaurant, where you drop in for a quick meal. What is interesting, is that the bistro tradition originates from France at the end of XIX century. Sure, you could have eat there quickly at the counter, but also you could savour a delicious meal in the elegant premises with an unofficial atmosphere. Paris bistros were a perfect place for meeting in a circle of friends with a glass of wine. Traditions of such bistros are cultivated in Kraków by Marago Bistro.

That day I've decided for a very late dinner. The interior was dominated by warm, calm colours - beige and light brown. This was of course accompanied by light wood - floor and simple but stylish tables and chairs. For more picky there were some comfortable armchairs and a sofa. Climate was also accented by the antique stove in one room and an old cupboard in the other. Some disorder was caused only by the photographs on the walls... Some outdoor scenery here, portraits there, and a pinch of vintage photos.

In the menu, as per bistro traditions, we will find typical breakfast positions, some typical dinner dishes, and a few appropriate for a light supper. Prices neither high nor low, which is consistent with the character of the bistro.

After a precise analysis I have decided to a chicken breast with chanterelles, ground parmesan and salad, along with citron lemonade with honey and melissa. Especially the beverage seemed interesting, because I've never before ordered a lemonade in a restaurant, as it was the first time I had such an option. The choice was a bulls-eye, and I was enchanted by the quickly served lemonade, by its rich and gentle citrus flavour along with form of presentation. Main course also was no disappointment. Also here, simple means led to an aesthetic composition with a great flavour. Chicken breast was deliciously succulent and delicate and an intense aroma of parmesan brought a great balance to the meal. In addition to that, a very good salad with cucumber, tomato, corn, ham and onions. Most memorable however were great baked potatoes. Nicely crispy on the outside with a delicate inside.

I was enchanted by the Marago Bistro with a great taste and appearance of dishes, and with nice and calm atmosphere, one step away from the city turmoil. But here everyone can find a solace where time seems to run slower.

Light-hearted and sometimes silly, but also full of discrepancies. Loves creative work and concept thinking. Taste is everything. It should be sweet or hot. And if hot, with a lot of spices. Always intensive.
